Jeboo sues US movie firms

Release time:2008-09-11

Lifang client Jeboo.com, one of China’s biggest online movie websites, filed a case on March 25 against the Motion Picture Association of America (MPAA) and five major US movie companies over statements made after the parties reached a settlement in March. In claiming compensation of RMB 1 million at the Beijing No.2 Intermediate People’s Court, Jeboo.com said the statements were untruthful and had damaged the company’s reputation.

The parties had reached a settlement in copyright infringement cases at the end of February, although the settlement did not involve admission of liability, and Jeboo only settled the case in order to show their sincerity, and to ensure the matter was dealt with quickly. The movies at issue were later shown not to have come from Jeboo.com.

The case will be heard in the Beijing Number 2 Intermediate Court sometime in mid July.
