Guangdong Names the Matsutek S. 377 Related Case a Top 10 Foreign-related IP Case

On 25th April 2018, the South China Institute for International Intellectual Property, the Foreign-related Legal Service Center of the Guangdong Province Law Society, and the Intellectual Property Committee of the Guangdong Province Bar Association jointly released their 2nd annual “Top 10 Foreign-related IP Cases of Guangdong Province” at the Conference Hall of the Guangdong University of Foreign Studies

iRobot, the world's largest robotic vacuum company, made a Section 337 Complaint to the US International Trade Commission that requested an investigation of Matsutek Co., Ltd.., the second largest robot vacuum company in the world. Wu Rangjun of Lifang & Partners and another lawyer from another law firm, instructed by Matsutek, filed a lawsuit in China in response to the Section 337 investigation. It was the lawsuit in China that was selected as one of the top ten cases .

Responding to the investigation with a lawsuit was an efficient and effective strategy that contributed to a global settlement between the two parties. The legal team working on this case  took immediate action after analyzing the market, products and technology involved, all of which helped the client to obtain a favorable outcome.

As a prominent case, it will shed some light on how Chinese companies should proactively deal with Section 337 investigations.
